Cross-Domain AJAX Requests http://www.ooopx.net/items/view/3212/cross-domain-ajax-requests

With the rising popularity of my AJAX/RSS Feeder plugin for jQuery I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how to make AJAX requests across domains which will be discussed in this post. In a perfect world cross-browser AJAX requests would just work, unfortunately they do not. Attempting to request remote files with AJAX will cause errors in the script and can be a pretty big hurdle in some cases and can be very frustrating. However, there are a few things that I have come across, in looking for a solution to this, that I would like to share.

Creating a Dynamic (xml) RSS Feed from PHP and MySQL (script) http://www.ooopx.net/items/view/2818/creating-a-dynamic-xml-rss-feed-from-php-and-mysql-script

This PHP script will query your MySQL database’s table where you keep your news, articles and such and basically create an XML file from that information. Once you look into the file itself, you can see that the query would need to be changed to suit your needs, but that’s pretty much the end of it.

Using Load Icons http://www.ooopx.net/items/view/2794/using-load-icons

Imagine a situation in which you enter a new site. The content you are desperately searching for doesn’t seem to be loading. You don’t know whether something is actually loading, or if it is just not there. You finally decide to exit the page. This situation can be very typical when websites require large files to be downloaded. In order to combat such a situation, a load icon may be used to signify that something is loading.
